The last "new" building to be added to the VCSU Campus in 1971, the L.D. Rhoades Science Center houses the math, science and IT departments. In November 2011, the Rhoades Science Center began a major transformation- VCSU received state funding for a 26,574 sq. ft. addition and renovation of the existing building. In this renovation all of the classrooms, labs and offices will be updated and feature all brand-new lab equipment and technology.
Available for rent in the Rhoades Science building is the auditorium with seating for 98 people, classrooms, an IVN lab and a planetarium (VCSU featured the the first planetarium in the state back when the building was constructed).
Past events held in the Rhoades Science Center include: the Science Olympiad, various planetarium showings, hunter's safety classes, training/presentations.
Medicine Wheel Park
In 1992 at Valley City State University, Professor Joe Stickler and his students began work on Medicine Wheel Park. The project soon expanded beyond the walls of the classroom to involve the community. The Park features two solar calendars: A horizon calendar (the medicine wheel) and a meridian or noontime calendar. Other aspects of this unique 30-acre Park include Native American burial mounds, solar system model, the North Country National Scenic Trail and other woodland nature trials, several scenic overlooks of the Sheyenne River valley and Valley City, and a 3000 square foot perennial flower garden.

Available Spaces
Auditorium
The auditorium was reconstructed with the rest of the building in 2012. The room features lecture seating for 98 people. Room equipment includes a sound system, drop-down screen, Apple TV, DVD Player, and a Network Room Controller.
Planetarium
Rhoades Science Center is home to a Spitz 512 planetarium. It has a 24 foot domed ceiling and 50 reclining seats in a three-quarter arrangement. This space was remodeled during the building construction and was completed during the summer of 2013. The planetarium is used for teaching purposes for some college classes as Astronomy and Earth Science. It's primary function though is to provide an educational service to area schools and community groups. There are 85-100 shows presented each year to college classes, visiting public schools, and various community groups. Each month a show for the general public is also provided. The room can accommodate up to 52 people.
Classrooms may also be available upon request
