Core Topic: Structure and Headings
Properties:
Creating accessible Word documents begins with saving your document. Use a short, descriptive name that tells what the file is about. It is also a good practice to add metadata like a title and author to the properties of the document.
To add metadata information:
- Go to File>Properties>Summary.
- Type the text you want as the title. Click OK.
Headings:
Headings are a great way to tell people what they need to know quickly. Headings are also necessary to generate a table of contents in Word.
- Type the text for your header.
- Select the text that you intend to use.
- Select Home > Styles (or press Alt+H, then L), and then select the heading style you want, such as Heading 1.
- Word applies a font and color change to help make it clear that this is a title.
