The Mensa Education and Research Foundation has a number of scholarship awards available to U.S. Citizens or legal residents who are enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution of post-secondary education for the Fall/Spring 2023-2024 terms. Scholarship winners will receive awards of $500 to $1,000 based on an online essay of 550 words or less describing their academic or career goals. Over $175,000 was awarded last year. We are guaranteed to have at least two scholarship winners from North Dakota each year. For the last three years, we also had a regional winner.

Please note that the students must submit their applications online between September 15, 2022, and January 15, 2023.

The North Dakota Mensa scholarship is open to all North Dakota residents.

Winners are selected based on these essays and Mensa Foundation judging criterion. The Foundation's college scholarship program bases its awards totally on essays written by the applicants. Consideration is not given to grades, academic program, or financial need. Mensa membership is not required, nor is it relevant.

Winners may apply the award towards undergraduate, graduate, and non-traditional programs.

A panel of North Dakota Mensans will select the semi-finalists and send those essays to the Mensa Foundation for selection of the winners. Grammar counts, as does essay organization and clarity of writing. The Foundation also awards additional specialty scholarships, such as for veterinary or journalism students only. A list of specialty scholarships is included with the application. One entry makes an applicant eligible for all the scholarships for which he or she qualifies.
