Welcome to Digital Accessibility at VCSU

We're glad you found us! At Valley City State University, we believe everyone should be able to access and interact with our digital content regardless of ability. Accessibility isn’t just a requirement; it’s part of who we are. We follow the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA to ensure our digital environment is inclusive and welcoming.

What Is Ally?

You might see the term "Ally" or "A11y" around. It’s a tech-friendly shorthand for accessibility (there are 11 letters between the “a” and the “y”). Ally is all about making sure websites, documents, videos, and apps work for everyone, including people with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive differences.

New to Accessibility? Start Here

That’s okay! We’ve got you covered. You don’t need to be a WCAG expert to create accessible content. We've created a set of Core Topics to guide you through the basics. These step-by-step resources will help you make your content more inclusive whether you're building a webpage, sharing a PDF, or designing a course in Blackboard.

  • Core Topics of Digital Accessibility at VCSU: Focus on key areas that make a big impact. Learn how headings, color contrast, alt text, and structure can improve accessibility.
  • Resource Hub: Explore curated articles, videos, and tools from trusted sources across the web.
  • Ally Toolkit: Download checklists, templates, and quick-start guides for creating accessible content.
