Instruction Mode
Instruction Mode is the course delivery method for each class section in the Campus Connection schedule. It describes where the instructor will provide the course instruction/activities and how the student will attend the class.
On Campus, Face to Face
- A traditional classroom setting where the instructor and students are physically located in the same place.
- There will be scheduled meeting days & times in a campus classroom.
- Students are expected to be physically present in the classroom.
Hybrid/Blended
- Instruction that includes students from different locations and/or environments for synchronous and/or asynchronous instruction.
- There will also be scheduled meeting days & times in a campus room at least 25% of the time.
- Students may opt to attend either face to face in the classroom or online synchronous.
Online Asynchronous
- Online instruction occurring independent of time or location.
- There will be no scheduled meeting days & times, which displays as To Be Announced or TBA. VCSU Online will be listed as the room.
- Distance Education courses are not eligible for some VCSU tuition waivers.
- Students must meet online course expectations and comply with distance learning technical requirements.
Online Synchronous
- Online instruction occurring independent of location, but at the same time (real time).
- There will be scheduled meeting days & times. VCSU Online will be listed as the room.
- Distance Education courses are not eligible for some VCSU tuition waivers.
- Students must attend online synchronous during the scheduled meeting days & times, meet online course expectations and comply with distance learning technical requirements.
Independent Study
- Instruction is provided in a self-study, self-paced format where the instructor and student mutually establish method(s) of communication.
- Hours Arranged. There will be no scheduled meeting days & times, which displays as To Be Announced or TBA.
Off Campus Face to Face
- A traditional classroom setting where the instructor and students are physically located in the same place in an off-campus location.
- If an off-campus location is not listed as the room, the location may be listed in the Class Notes.
From the Student Homepage under the Manage Classes tile, all students, faculty, and staff can class search.
- Click on Class Search and Enroll in the menu. Search for classes by selecting the Term and Valley City State University. Click on a Class link to open the Class Information window.
- Enrolled students can click on View My Classes in the menu to find instruction modes. Click on a line under Class to open the Class Information window.
- In the Class Information window, you will find multiple tabs. Click on the Class Details tab for Instruction Mode. Click on the Enrollment Information tab for Class Note.
- Current students can also click on Schedule Planner. For more details, visit Enrolling with Schedule Planner or Schedule Planner for Advisors. After the Add Courses and Generate Schedules steps, instruction mode is listed in the View Schedules and Shopping Cart steps.
From the Guest Homepage under the Catalog/Class Search tile, anyone can click Class Search - All Campuses from the menu.
From the Student Homepage under the Student Self-Service tile, any logged in user can click Class Search - All Campuses from the menu or click on Search under Academics.
From the Faculty/Advisor Homepage under the Advisor Center tile, advisors will select a specific student under Advisee Student Center.
In this Class Search - All Campuses, you can select search criteria of Mode of Instruction before clicking on the Search button.
After clicking the Search button, you will look for a Class Note by clicking on a Section link.
