Given the recent release of updated CDC guidance which now consolidates guidance for COVID 19 with that for other respiratory viruses (like influenza and RSV) and no longer calls for a specific 5-day isolation period for COVID,  Valley City State University is adjusting its approach to managing COVID cases.

  • Students who test positive for COVID will no longer be required to move to a separate isolation space.
  • Students who are ill with respiratory viruses are asked to self-isolate, staying out of classes and public spaces and getting meals to go (wearing a mask while in the dining hall) until symptoms are improving overall and they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication to keep it down.
  • There will no longer be any formal institutional determination or monitoring of return-to-class dates; students will exercise their own best judgement about when to return based on these recommendations.  All are asked to take additional precautions (e.g. wearing a mask when around others) until symptoms are resolved.
