Passport ID: Viking Dana
Viking Dana is watching the Voice of the Vikings podcast in the Student Center lobby on her iPad. There is a competition on campus and it is very noisy. Dana can't hear the podcast. Let's step into Dana's shoes to watch the podcast.
- YouTube Voice of the Vikings Podcast: Episode 11, Dr. Alan LaFave
- Loud voices Video Simulator: YouTube People Talking
To set up the experience:
- Open the VCSU Podcast in one tab of your browser. Play the podcast video on mute without captions.
- Open the People Talking video in a separate tab. Play the YouTube People Talking video aloud.
- Turn on/off closed captions on the podcast video. Review the the transcript.
Thank you for participating! VCSU will continue to foster an understanding of how people with disabilities experience and use technology. While participating in this passport exercise, we hope you were able to discover empathy on three levels:
- Cognitive: Being able to take another person's perspective.
- Emotional: Sharing experiences. Truly understanding the person's emotional state.
- Compassionate: Being able to feel a person's situation. Feel with them and take action to help.
Note: VCSU uses Silktide tools to support accessible content. The Silktide extension for Chrome and Edge offers built-in accessibility checks and simulations, including color contrast, dyslexia, screen reader views, and more. We encourage you to install it and explore its features.
